May 4, 2019

On Saturday, May 04, 2019, the London Central Lions Club held  their 16th annual Benefit Night – “Lions Fight for Sight”. The proceeds from this event went towards DeafBlind Ontario Services. We were very proud to present a cheque for $16,000 to Juliette Coughlan at our June meeting.

Your generous contribution in support of Lions ‘Fight for Sight’ will fund DeafBlind Ontario Services’ Sensory Exploration Arts (SEATM) program expansion into London.  Since 2010, this Community Services program has provided individuals with deafblindness with the opportunity to explore and experience themes through their senses.  They are then given the opportunity to express their responses to these sensory experiences through variety of art mediums (without direction) and see themselves as artists.  Sensory Exploration Arts (SEATM) is inclusive and, while it’s geared to those with sensory loss, it’s also open to individuals with sensory and physical impairments from other organizations and community agencies like CNIB, Community Living London, Christian Horizons, Participation House Support Services London, Forward House, and New Frontiers.

The program’s goals are to:

  • provide opportunities to utilize the senses to explore, discover and learn on their own terms;
  • engage all senses in activity; increase communication and self-expression; empower individuals.

The “Lions Fight for Sight” event included a perch dinner, a silent and live auction.
